Paint FAQ'S
(Frequently Asked Questions)

Q.        How long will my bike be down while its painted?
A.        Normally it takes roughly 2-3 weeks to complete the process of stripping it to ensure your paint job will last
           forever, complete body work, paint and re-assemble (if necessary).

Q.        How long does a complete Kustom take?
A.        A Kustom design (like our Skull bike) takes approximately 5-6 weeks, depending on suppliers...chromers,
           other people involved in the process! (some of our EX suppliers took FOREVER!!!)

Q.        What's Pearl paint?
A.        Usually dry additive added to your base coat or mid-coat to give a micro-metallic appearance.
   This type of Paint also gives the best "ghost" apperance...mix and match in Bud's head and pearl
   effects will knock your socks off!

Q.        What's Flake?
A.        Generally used to describe the "bass boat" appearance. Flakes come in varying sizes and colors.
   Flake is generally the pure form of metallic colors, mostly silvers. This type of paint under a candy would be
   The cheapest form of artwork, meaning that the stacking of flakes gives depth.

Q.        What's the difference between Metallic and Glamour Metallics?
A.        Metallics are usually much smaller "flecks" in your paint versus Glamour Metallic which has a more
           pronounced "wow factor". Glamour Metallics show up extremely well under Kandies.

Q.        What's Kandy?
A.        (You eat it!!) No really, its a mid-coat that's sprayed over your base coat(s) to give a different color variation.
           Ex. Silver with apple red Kandy turns into deep metallic reds.
           Some Kandies are dyes, caution they may bleed artwork

Q.        What are Kameleon / Harlequin colors?
A.        These are color shifting colors. Ex: Red to purple shift over the contour of a tank or light source.

Q.        Are there any helmets you can't paint on?
A.        We do NOT NORMALLY paint carbon-fiber helmets (appearance of a small checker-board). If you have a
           Carbon Fiber helmet bring it with you and we'll check manufacturers description of top coating.

Q.        How long is the warranty / guarantee you offer?
A.        We offer a 1 year guarantee on all jobs as long as common sense is used (see pledge question below). AS
              LONG AS YOU GET YOUR FREE 90 DAY CHECK-UP!!!   If you maintain your paint job as described
             in paint warranty on delivery. IF A FLATTENING AGENT IS USED ON YOUR BIKE your guarantee
             will drop to 6 months on TOP COAT ONLY! (Normal clear coat still applied to protect art work to its
             best capability). There are also manufacturers warranties that may cover defects should they arise.

Q.        If I have a problem thats covered under warranty what comes out of my pocket?
A.        If the defect is caused by OUR fault or manufacturer defect, we will repair your bike for FREE. However, if
           you fail to follow directions (see WD-40 question below) we would be happy to double dip your pockets.

Q.        Will Pledge (or "Future" floor wax) work to wax my bike?
A.        WHO IN THE *#^% TOLD YOU THAT? (We keep our sources confidential!) But, NO you may not use floor
           wax or wood polish. Key word WOOD. We recommend Carnuba Wax or Wizards Products AFTER 6
           WEEKS.

Q.        Can you use WD-40 to remove bugs and tar from your bike?
A.        As long as you would like to remove your new paint job along with it. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE
           use WD-40 to take tar off your bike. We recommend liquid Dawn detergent in SMALL quantities with water
           and a soft cloth as well as NXT Speed Detailer (found at local parts stores) Keep in mind we charge EXTRA
           for silicone removal.

Q.        Is a deposit required when I drop my tins / bike off?
A.        Yes. A 50% deposit is required before work is started. Payment in FULL must be received prior to delivery.

Q.        Can you paint my extra set of tins I bought off E-Bay?
A.        Yes. However, we suggest you make sure they fit your bike before we paint them. We will strip your bike to
           make new holes if possible and charge you to repaint them if you did not check before hand.

Q.        Do you re-use customized ideas or designs?
A.        Customer ideas and designs are returned to customer and will never be exactly duplicated. Ex. You cannot
           paint your bike blue and silver, call it "your idea" and expect that no one will ever have another blue and
           silver bike. As for artwork, we Kustom design each bike to ensure no two are exactly alike. Kustom colors
           are the property of S & S Kustom Shop unless rights purchased for an amount of time (1 year or 6 months)
           where no one else can have your exact color.
